The Roseville Public Utilities Commission will consider Roseville Electric’s proposed rate and fee adjustments at its Oct. 23 meeting.
The Commission, which serves as an advisory board to the City Council, will hear Roseville Electric’s presentation on its need for rate adjustment and fee adjustments and accept comments from the public during its meeting.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and be held in the City Council’s Chambers, 311 Vernon Street, Roseville. The meeting will also be broadcast live on Government Access Channel 14/73.
Roseville Electric must consider adjusting rates and fees due to increasing capital and power supply costs, including costs associated with reducing emissions and electricity consumption. Without the adjustments, Roseville Electric is forecasting an $85 million deficit by 2012.
Roseville Electric’s recommended adjustments include:
Increasing all customer energy rates by 6 percent in February 2008 and 6 percent in February 2009
Establishing a third tier for residential customers who use more than 1,000 kWh in a month.
Establishing a Climate Change Mitigation charge for residential and business customers
Reestablishing the Electric Backbone Recovery Fee. The fee is paid by developers prior to the construction of new projects.
The proposal ensures that Roseville’s 50,000 customers continue to receive highly reliable energy and dependable service. With the proposed adjustment, Roseville Electric will continue to be among the lowest electric utilities in the region.
If the Public Utilities Commission supports Roseville Electric’s recommendations, the matter will be considered by the Roseville City Council at its Dec. 5 meeting.
