Roseville Housing Authority Celebrates 40 Years

Roseville, Calif.- The City of Roseville Housing Authority is celebrating 40 years of providing rental assistance to low-income residents of Roseville and Rocklin with a ceremony October 1.

Since 1974, the Roseville Housing Authority has awarded more than $70 million in federal funds for rental assistance in Roseville and Rocklin.
 
The Roseville Housing Authority currently provides rental assistance for 637 households through the federal Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program. Eighty percent of households receiving rental assistance in Roseville and Rocklin have a head of household who is either elderly or disabled. The City of Rocklin contracts with the Roseville Housing Authority to administer the HCV program for their residents.
 
“The Housing Authority provides an important social service, ensuring safe and affordable housing for our residents,” said Chris Robles, City of Roseville Economic Development Director. ” Safe and affordable housing is an essential component to the foundation of our community’s economic stability.”
 
The Roseville Housing Authority also administers the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program for some HCV participants. This program offers incentive to finding and maintaining employment by creating interest-earning savings accounts when the participants portion of the rent increases due to increases in income.
 
Since the inception of the Family Self-Sufficiency Program in 1992, 90 families successfully completed the program with 22 having purchased homes with the help of the FSS Program funds they earned.
 
“A safety net is not supposed to carry you the rest of your life. It is meant to help you from falling. This is exactly what the Roseville Housing Authority did for my family,” said Roy Chirigotis, participant in the Family Self-Sufficiency Program. “The Housing Authority gave us support to get on our feet. It gave us time to plan a future. Most of all it gave us confidence to make it happen.”
 
The Roseville Housing Authority has been designated as a High Performer by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development for the past 10 years.
