Roseville Mayor Receives Woman of the Year Award

Roseville, Calif.- Assemblywoman Beth Gaines, R-Roseville, honored Susan Rohan, Mayor of Roseville, as the 2014 Woman of the Year for the 6th Assembly District during a special Assembly ceremony today at the State Capitol.

Much like Gaines, Rohan is also a self-employed, local business owner. Rohan’s business began in the late 1990’s and has long since provided public relations services, primarily government relations. She grew up in Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska. In 1988, she moved to California and made Roseville her home. Rohan and her husband, Einar Maisch, have a family of three grown children, all Oakmont High grads, and one grandchild, Josh, who attends Stoneridge Elementary School.

Since making the move to Roseville, Rohan has taken various leadership roles and made several charitable contributions to the community. Among her many charitable activities, Rohan volunteers for the Keaton Raphael Memorial, and she is a member of the boards of the Salvation Army and Sutter Memorial Hospital. Rohan was awarded the 2013 Salvation Army Spirit of Caring Award, the Roseville Chamber of Commerce Athena Award, and the Placer County Economic Development Board Private Sector Business Award.

“Susan has been an involved member of the community for years, and I am inspired by her dedication to make California a better place to live,” Gaines said. “Susan is a true example of a person who lives to serve others and has a positive impact on the lives of many. I am gratified to present Susan with this most deserving honor.”

Rohan’s most recent efforts are in bringing higher education and economic development to the community. She has been working tirelessly to bring in the resources and revenues necessary to improve the city’s access to higher education. Rohan hopes to bring a satellite campus to Placer County, where students will be able to complete course work for institutions such as California State University Sacramento, Sierra College, William Jessup University, and Clarkson University.

Another goal Rohan has for the community is to develop economic growth. In fact, Rohan was unable to attend the Woman of the Year award ceremony due to a trip to South Africa to secure investors for a community conference center/hotel in Roseviile. Rohan hopes to develop a location in Placer County’s highest populated city where people can come together and conduct business.

“Education is the foundation of success of California, and with Susan’s efforts, we are on our way to having access to higher education and the tools to expand business right here in our community,” Gaines said. “Contributions such as these will be beneficial for generations to come.”

Held annually, the Woman of the Year ceremony celebrates California’s extraordinary women.

Started in 1987 to help commemorate Women’s History Month, the event has become one of the Capitol’s most anticipated celebrations of community service each year. Honorees are presented with a certificate from the State Assembly recognizing their outstanding contributions to their community during a special ceremony in the Assembly chambers.

Assemblywoman Beth Gaines represents the 6th Assembly District, which includes portions of Placer, El Dorado, Sacramento and counties.
