Roseville Police Promotions and New Employees

At 2 p.m.  today (January 31, 2007), at the Tower Theatre, 421 Vernon St., the Roseville Police Department will officially welcome a new captain, two newly promoted sergeants and four recently hired police employees.

In mid-January, Roseville’s City Council added three new, additional positions to the Roseville Police Department, bringing the department’s complement to 135 sworn officer positions and 79 civilian positions.

Roseville Police Chief Joel Neves said, “These new positions reflect City Council’s commitment to maintaining appropriate police staffing levels, and keeping Roseville a safe and healthy community. We’re very fortunate to have this kind of support from our Council, and we’re also fortunate to be able to hire and promote such good people.”

Stanley Lumsden was promoted to the rank of captain to replace the retired Capt. Gary Shonkwiler. Capt. Lumsden started his law enforcement career as a community service officer for the Sacramento Police Department, and joined the Roseville Police Department as a police officer in 1982.  Lumsden earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from CSUS and a master’s degree in leadership from St. Mary’s College. He promoted to sergeant in 1995 and lieutenant in 2002. He has served the Roseville Police Department in many capacities, including patrol, street crimes, K9s and SWAT. Lumsden currently manages the jail and traffic units.

Two officers, Marc Glynn and Missy Morris, recently promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Marc Glynn was promoted from police officer to sergeant on December 23.   In March 2003, Glynn left the Berkeley Police Department to become a Roseville police officer. Sgt. Glynn holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Baker’s College, and was a drill instructor in the Army Reserves. Glynn has served Roseville Police as a defensive tactics instructor, field training officer, detective, and member of the honor guard and SWAT teams.

Missy Morris was promoted from police officer to sergeant on January 20.  Morris left the Mountain View Police Department to join Roseville in September 1998.  Sgt. Morris earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and has served Roseville as a traffic officer, field training officer, honor guard member and critical incident negotiator.

Chief Neves will also welcome four recently hired employees, Mary Green, Matthew Leatherman, Leslie Case and Carrie Harris.

Mary Green was hired by Roseville last year as an entry-level police officer trainee. Upon her graduation from police academy in December,  she was promoted to police officer. Officer Green holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Davis, and was a dispatcher for the Sacramento Police Department.

Matthew Leatherman started working for the Roseville Police Department as a part-time Police Cadet in November, but didn’t stay in that position for long! In January, he was promoted to Community Service Officer.  Leatherman holds an A.A. degree in liberal arts from Sierra College.

Leslie Case joined the RPD in November as a part-time records clerk. She has a cosmetology license, and previously worked at a title company.

Carrie Harris joined the RPD in December as a records clerk. She previously worked in security at Thunder Valley Casino, and as a police assistant for the Reno Police Department.
