Ralph Alexander Mattos III, who is suspected of involvement in a non-injury drive-by shooting in Roseville on October 10, has been taken into custody.
The arrest was a good example of cooperation among neighboring law enforcement agencies. In mid-October, the Roseville Police Department sent a wanted person flyer about Mattos to other law enforcement agencies in the region. Early in the morning on October 27, an off-duty Folsom Police Department officer spotted Mattos on Elkhorn Boulevard. The off-duty Folsom officer called the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department. Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies located Mattos nearby on Greenback Lane, and detained him until Roseville Police Department Crime Suppression Unit officers responded and took him into custody.
Mattos, 19, who lists no current address, is being held without bail in the Placer County Jail on a Placer County warrant charging attempted murder. He was also arrested on new charges of possessing a controlled substance, and bringing a controlled substance into a jail. He is scheduled for arraignment at 1 p.m. on October 30.
Mattos is suspected of involvement in a drive-by shooting. At 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, Roseville Police officers responded to a report of several gunshots fired from a vehicle on Fifth Street near E Street. A 17-year-old Roseville resident was on foot in the area when a white Hyundai sedan cruised past him. The males in the sedan flashed gang signs, and then the passenger fired several shots at the pedestrian. The bullets did not hit anyone, and no one reported being injured. Officers believe that the shooting was gang-related.
