At 4:59 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, Roseville Fire Department personnel responded to a general fire alarm at Oakmont High School, 1710 Cirby Way. Firefighters found a small fire in the rear, exterior wall of a portable classroom, which they quickly extinguished. Three Roseville Fire Department engines, a truck and a battalion chief responded to the single-alarm fire.
Fire department personnel credited the school’s fire alarm, which alerted firefighers to the fire before it could spread.
Upon further investigation, firefighters found evidence of burglary, and notified Roseville Police. Police personnel confirmed that four portable classrooms, including the one in which the fire started, had been broken into. Three classroom LCD televisions and a small amount of cash were taken. A witness saw a dark colored van leaving the area at about the time the fire alarm sounded.
School officials responded immediately and worked to ensure that all classes could open with minimal disruption.
