Roseville Police take man into custody after he broke into a home and assaulted a resident.
At 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Roseville Police responded to the 600 block of Portside Circle to several reports of a man jumping over backyard fences and climbing onto roofs. Witnesses reported that the man was yelling at himself and appeared delusional. When officers arrived in the area, the man ran from police.
Placer County Sheriff’s deputies and Citrus Heights Police officers responded to assist, and established a perimeter around the neighborhood. The suspect continued to run and hide from officers, and then forced entry into a house in the 600 block of Lyndhurst Avenue, where he obtained an unloaded rifle. A man inside the house struggled with him over the rifle, and was clubbed in the face with it. Officers heard yelling and glass breaking, entered the house and took the suspect into custody after a violent struggle. Officers used tasers, batons and bean-bag rounds to subdue the violently resisting suspect. The victim (a male in his 20s) who was hit with a rifle-butt by the intruder was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Three or four officers and a Placer County Sheriff’s dog received minor injuries in the fray, and the suspect received major injuries.
The suspect, Israel Williams, 31, of Sacramento, was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition. Charges pending against him include aggravated assault, burglary and resisting arrest.
