Roseville, Calif.- A woman was rescued from a vehicle rollover in a remote area of Roseville last night, after her frantic 911 call triggered an extensive multi-agency search.
At 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, Roseville 911 dispatchers received a wireless 911 call from an injured woman who said her vehicle had rolled into a ditch somewhere on Fiddyment Road in Roseville, or Walerga Road in Sacramento County. Roseville dispatchers sent Roseville police and fire personnel to check Fiddyment Road, and called the California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire to check Walerga Road in Sacramento County. Operators from Verizon, the woman’s wireless company, helped by determining that the woman’s cell phone call had “pinged” their tower on Blue Oaks Boulevard.
Roseville Fire Department personnel drove through the area sounding sirens, and the injured woman told the dispatcher when she could hear the sirens getting closer to her location.
Local freelance journalist Travis Hammond heard the activity on his police and fire radio scanners and also responded to the area. At 9:42 p.m. he found the woman’s car in a ditch about 200 feet from the dead end of Blue Oaks Boulevard, and directed emergency personnel to the vehicle.
The driver, a 66-year-old woman from Antelope, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, treated and released. The collision is under investigation by the Roseville Police Department.
