Woman with Alzheimer’s found by police dog

Project Lifesaver

Good dog!  Monday night, Roseville Police canine Apollo helped find an Alzheimer’s patient who had wandered from home.

Just before 10 p.m.  Monday, December 20, Roseville Police was notified that a Roseville resident in her 70s with Alzheimer’s Syndrome had wandered away from home. 

Numerous police officers responded and began searching the area.  Minutes after Apollo and his handler, Officer Scott Miskewcycz, arrived on scene, Apollo located the woman in a neighbor’s carport, not far from her home.  She was soon reunited with her family.

The Roseville Police Department also provided information to the family about the Project Lifesaver program. Project Lifesaver is a free program for Roseville residents with Alzheimer’s and other dementia disorders, or other medical or developmental conditions that make them likely to wander away from caretakers.

Roseville Police volunteers provide clients with radio transmitter bracelets. In the event a Project Lifesaver client wanders from home, Roseville Police officers can use tracking equipment to locate them.
