Bill Santucci, lifelong resident and former Roseville Mayor dies

Hailed as “consummate public servant”

Roseville, Calif.- Flags are flying at half-mast on City of Roseville buildings, as the Roseville City Council and City staff mourn the passing of lifelong resident and former Roseville Mayor Bill Santucci.

Santucci served on the Roseville Project Review Commission, Planning Commission and Personnel Board, volunteering his time to make recommendations to the Roseville City Council regarding a variety of local issues. He was appointed to the Roseville City Council in 1986 and was elected to two full terms on the City Council until voters elected him as District 1 Supervisor for Placer County. Bill served as mayor of Roseville from 1987 to 1989, and from 1991 to 1993.

Bill participated in establishing the Roseville specific plan process, reviewing and approving the Southeast, Northwest, North Central and Del Webb Specific Plans while on the City Council.

Bill was a respected statesman and representative of the City of Roseville in the region and among the business community. He traveled to Japan twice on the City’s behalf meeting with representatives of NEC and the Mayor of Tokyo.

“The passing of Bill Santucci is a tremendous loss for all citizens of Roseville. Bill was the consummate public servant and always had the best interests of our citizens in his heart. He was a role model and mentor to me and I will personally miss my good friend.”

Mayor Jim Gray

Santucci continued to represent the citizens of Roseville on the Placer County Board of Supervisors from 1994 through 2006. He helped create a Memorandum of Understanding between the City and Placer County to guide future development in West Placer County, and he secured funding from FEMA for the elevation of 35 homes in the Roseville area. He was a proponent of the County’s support for public improvements at the Roseville Galleria, and his conservative fiscal management of county resources continues to benefit all city and county residents.

City Manager W. Craig Robinson said, ‘Bill was a model citizen and dedicated Councilmember. He served our residents and our businesses through consensus-building and kindness. We are thankful for his service as celebrated on October 12, 2005 when we dedicated Bill Santucci Park in his honor. We look forward to again acknowledging his service at Placer County’s dedication of the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville.’
