Roseville Electric celebrates opening of new Energy Park

16-megawatt natural gas fired plan

The City of Roseville along with the Roseville City Council, Roseville Public Utilities Commission, elected officials, and Roseville Electric employees celebrated today the grand opening of the new Roseville Energy Park.

It was just two years earlier on this very site that this same crowd gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of this monumental capital improvement project for Roseville.  After several thousands of hours of planning, construction, and testing, the 12-acre parcel is now a fully functional state-of-the-art power generation facility.

The Roseville Energy Park is a 160 megawatt, natural gas fired plant that uses combined cycle turbines and recycled water from the Pleasant Grove Wastewater Treatment Plant to cool the turbine and generate electricity. Using the best available technology and California’s stringent air quality regulations keeps air emissions at a fraction of those produced by the average U.S. power plant.

“In our high-tech world, commerce goes hand-in-hand with the dependability of reliable, low-cost electricity. “The opening of the Roseville Energy Park is a critical step in taking our economic prosperity to the next level.”

Jim Gray, Roseville Mayor

Guests of the celebration were treated to a brief history of the project and several photos of the construction progress.  City and local officials gave brief statements on how the new facility will greatly benefit customers of Roseville Electric and the community.

“The Roseville Energy Park is the City’s largest capital improvement project to date and Roseville Electric’s first generation facility,” said Tom Habashi, Roseville Electric’s Utility Director.  “The benefits this energy facility will bring to the area are substantial.  By providing up to 40 percent of the City’s electricity needs, we truly are in control of our energy destiny.”
