Roseville electric rates to jump 12% over two years

Roseville City Council Adopts Electric Rate and Fee Adjustments

The Roseville City Council voted 4-1 to adopt Roseville Electric's Rate and Fee Adjustments at its meeting December 5th.  The adjustments will appear on customer's February bills beginning in 2008.

The two-year proposal was necessary to offset a projected $85 million deficit by 2012. Roseville Electric continues to experience increasing capital and power supply costs, including costs associated with reducing greenhouse gas emissions and electricity consumption.

Recommended rate and fee adjustments

• Increasing electricity rates by approximately 6 percent effective February 2008 and 6 percent effective in February 2009
• Establishing a third tier for residential customers who use more than 1,000 kWh in a month
• Establishing a Climate Change Mitigation charge for all customers
• Reestablishing the Electric Backbone Recovery Fee that is paid by developers prior to the construction of their projects. The fee will be effective July 2008.

With the proposed adjustment, Roseville Electric rates will continue to among the lowest compared to other electric utilities in the region.
