The City of Roseville is hosting an open house to celebrate the completion of a groundwater well project.
Residents can come get a behind-the-scenes look at one of Environmental Utilities' water supply facilities.
Partially funded by state grant monies, this multi-million dollar project expands and bolsters the city's existing groundwater system by bringing the total number of wells to six. It also creates both immediate and lasting benefits by allowing Roseville to supplement surface water supplies in the current drought and over the longer-term wet and dry cycles experienced in the region.
Back in 2003, the City embarked on an innovative program to protect customers' water supply reliability against drought emergencies. The Aquifer Storage and Recovery project banks treated water during the rainy season by injecting surface water into groundwater aquifers for holding until needed.
Last year, because of the continued historic drought, the City turned on the groundwater wells when Folsom Lake fell to record lows to help sustain lake levels during a very dry month.
