Rocklin Honors Peter Hill with a Park

Peter Hill Heritage Park in Rocklin

Rocklin, Calif.- Longtime Rocklin City Council Member Peter Hill will be honored with the naming of a park.  On October 21, the area informally known as "Heritage Park" was formally named "Peter Hill Heritage Park." Peter Hill Heritage Park will encompass the site currently known as Heritage Park, Roundhouse, The Orchard and the Fire House.

Peter Hill has been a community servant to the City, County and region for many years. He served on the Rocklin City Council for 29 years and 8 months and was Mayor six times. He was first elected in 1980 and served until 1993.  He was re-elected in 1996 and served until 2012. He represented the City of Rocklin on various boards, commissions and committees during his tenure on the City Council. In addition, he was on the committee to establish Rocklin's park system. Peter and his wife Janet have lived in Rocklin since 1976.

Rocklin Mayor, George Magnuson said, "This is a wonderful way to pay tribute to a man who gave outstanding service and commitment to the citizens of Rocklin for more than a quarter of a century.  Naming this park in the 'Old Town Section of Rocklin' in Peter Hill's honor is very appropriate, since Peter was instrumental and the driving force in the 'Safe Routes to Schools' concept that changed the face of the old blighted downtown area by installing sidewalks, curbs and gutters, modern infrastructure and repaved the streets, all at no costs to individual property owners.

The final outcome of his dream that every child has the right to travel safely to and from school has changed the quality of life not only for people living in the 'old town section', but for all the citizens of Rocklin. Even though the Safe Routes to School represents only one of Peter's visions, I hope  present and future residents will appreciate what his  total commitment to our city represented, not only in shaping present day Rocklin, but also the future of Rocklin".
