BMW 760i a high-priced luxury sedan

Flagship 7 Series blends V8 power, cutting-edge tech, and first-class comfort – at a six-figure price

Roseville, Calif. – Admittedly, we can’t relate to buying a new, upscale BMW. And there’s one primary reason for that – it’s cost prohibitive.

We are aware these aren’t the old days and now there are affordable BMW vehicles in our price range, like the roughly $40,000 one can pay for the228 Gran Coupe. But in our view, that’s not a prestigious representation of the esteemed German automaker.

BMWs that really interest us start in the $70,000 range and can climb much higher. We’ve been enamored driving the 2026 BMW 760i for a week. Yet a look at the sticker price – starting at just under $125,000 – and it’s clear this classy sedan is way out of reach for many.

Exclusive Club

What does it mean to purchase an upper-end Beamer like the 760i? It means you’re buying a high-performance vehicle with cutting-edge technology, standard all-wheel drive, precise handling, and superior comfort. No wonder BMWs are often referred to as “the ultimate driving machine.”

The exclusive club that has the means to purchase a 760i is the primary reason sales have never been high. In 2025, sales of the760i reached 11,393, the most since 2016. And one has to go back to its first year (2005) for the sedan’s best sales year ever of 18,165.

The 760i is part of BMW’s 7 series that also includes the i7 and 740i. Our 760i ride featured what BMW calls a panoramic Sky Lounge LED roof, an enormous glass panel that is surrounded by color-changing LED lights and comes standard in all trim models.

Performance

One expects superior acceleration and that’s exactly what the 760i delivers. It has a twin turbocharged 4.4-liter, V8 engine that combines with 48-volt mild hybrid system to produce 536 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. It travels 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. For such a heavy sedan (5,095 pounds), it still gets 18-25 mpg and has a huge 19.5-gallon fuel tank.

Driving the 760i feels very sporty and effortless. The steering is light and nimble, giving the driver a feeling of total control in all situations.

Standard driver safety features include frontal collision warning with collision mitigation; blind spot detection; lane departure warning; lane keeping assist; 360-degree view; and active park distance control.

AT A GLANCE – 2026 BMW 760i

  • Performance: twin turbocharged 4.4-liter, V8, 48-volt hybrid system, 536 horsepower
  • Mileage estimate: 18-25 mpg
  • Price estimate: $124,800 to $126,300
  • Warranty: 4 years/50,000 miles; Drivetrain: 4 years/50,000 miles; Roadside Assistance: 4 years/unlimited; Corrosion: 12 years/unlimited

Interior

It’s also difficult to find fault with the interior. The front seating is luxurious, thanks in part to standard 18-way power-adjustable seats that include heating, ventilation and massage functions. The seating in back is enormous with leg room that allows one to really stretch out.

Up front, there’s a standard 14.9-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The touchscreen requires some practice to master. But if something can’t be figured out, the voice recognition is excellent and controls many different functions. The cargo area is spacious at 19.1 cubic feet.

There are some optional features that are truly upscale, including a 31.3-inch theater screen rear-seat entertainment system and 5.5-inch touchscreens in both rear door panels that allow passengers to control seat adjustments, heating/cooling and massage.

The 2026 BMW 760i is a wonderful sedan that provides an enormous amount of luxury. Sure, it comes with a huge sticker price, but if cost is not a big concern, this is a sedan that delivers lots of enjoyment.
