Guidelines to Improve Your Immune System

Proactive approach for strengthening immune system

Sacramento, CA- According to the CDC, 94% of COVID hospitalized patients, or COVID-related deaths, which now numbers over 300,000, had pre-existing chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and other inflammatory conditions. And, according to research from around the world, low vitamin D levels, both, significantly increases the risk of contracting the virus, and dying from it.

As a practicing Naturopathic Doctor, I encourage you not to live in fear, or in denial, but choose to be proactive and take control of the things you can change, not only to continue to use common sense well-established practices of prevention such as: physical distancing, wearing effective masks, and washing hands frequently, but also, to take responsibility for strengthening your own internal immunity.

An easily understandable metaphor for our individual immune systems is a nation’s military. All militaries have “basic training,” also called, “boot camp” for their recruits. The purpose is to prepare the new soldier, emotionally, physically, psychologically, to the rigors of their coming duties. In the same way, a naturopathic doctor, will prescribe, healthy lifestyles, and immune-supporting supplements, to help their bodies and minds to be prepared for life’s obstacles, including viral pandemics.

Based on an incredible amount of research around the world, and clinical experience in naturopathic clinics, the following are some general recommendations (not to be taken for your personal medical advice), but as helpful guidelines to improve one’s immune system:

For the next two months, only, at these dosages, and then lower dosage (all should be taken in the middle of a meal):

Vitamin D: 10,000-20,000 IUs/day (with added vitamin K2 is much better). Optimal D level is 50-90 on your blood test.
Vitamin A: 25,000 IUs (retinol)/day
Zinc (Citrate, Gluconate, Glycinate): 30 mg, 2x/day (be careful there isn’t 30 mg already in your multi)
N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC): 500-1,000 mg, 2x/day
Vitamin C with flavonoids: 1-2,000 mgs, 2x/day
Quercetin: 500 mg, 2x/day
B-Complex: 1 cap, 2x/day. Make sure that the folate is 5-Methyl Folate, and that the vitamin B12 is Methyl or Hydroxy-cobalamin (not cyano).
