High Sierra Music Festival: Annual Plumas County Celebration

Phantasmagorical Experience in the Sierra Nevada

Quincy, CA- Implored over the past few years by passionate festival-goers and blessed with good fortune of an open calendar, we found ourselves saddling up the camping gear and heading toward a weekend of hijinks at the High Sierra Music Festival.

2019 marks the festival's 29th annual celebration in Plumas County. Filled with incredible sights and sounds throughout the weekend, HSMF embodies a symbiotic relationship between journey and destination. For lack of a better word, it's a phantasmagoria of fun.

Merriam- Webster offers up the following definitions of phantasmagoria
1 : an exhibition of optical effects and illusions
2a : a constantly shifting complex succession of things seen or imagined
b : a scene that constantly changes
3 : a bizarre or fantastic combination, collection, or assemblage

Journey

Feather River Scenic Byway

Beginning our trek from South Placer, we headed to Quincy from Highway 65 toward Highway 70. Known as the Feather River Scenic Byway, a twisting and turning ascent takes you on one of California's treasured road trips.

With a population under 20,000 in an area larger than the state of Delaware, Plumas County is a sparsely populated wilderness on the northern fringe where the Sierra Nevada begins to meld into the volcanic Cascade Mountain Range. From pure alpine lakes, heavily forested slopes to the power producing Feather River, it's easy to find yourself stopping numerous times to take in the grandeur along the route. The numerous PG&E properties along this stretch of the Feather River are a testament to its power and influence.
