Los Angeles expecting 55,000 doses of Moderna vaccine

Eligibility to expand to Angelenos with underlying health conditions or disabilities

LOS ANGELES – Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that City-run vaccination sites will offer approximately 55,000 first dose appointments this week, while eligibility expands across L.A. County to include residents with certain underlying health conditions or disabilities. Vaccines will be administered across the City's seven permanent and eight mobile vaccination sites.

Mayor Eric Garcetti

"Hope is on the horizon, but we can only end this pandemic if Angelenos are vigilant, keep following public health guidelines, and get vaccinated when it's their turn," said Mayor Garcetti. "Every vaccine being offered is safe, effective, and proven to protect us from severe illness, hospitalization, and death — and as we get more doses into people's arms this week, we move even closer to defeating COVID-19 in Los Angeles."

55,000 doses

The City is expected to receive about 55,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine. Existing doses will be administered across locations at San Fernando Park, Hansen Dam, Crenshaw Christian Center, Lincoln Park, Pierce College, USC University Park, and Dodger Stadium. The City will also continue to distribute the allotment of Johnson & Johnson doses it received last week. More doses of this one-shot vaccine are expected to arrive in April.

With eligibility expanding, the number of people able to receive the vaccine throughout California exceeds the current doses allocated in the state. Beyond those with certain underlying conditions and disabilities, the County late last week opened access to janitors and custodians, public transit workers, and public works employees required to respond in person to emergency events alongside emergency service personnel. While the current supply remains low, Los Angeles expects to receive a larger influx of doses in April.

The permanent City-led sites will be open this week from Tuesday through Saturday between 8am and 4pm, with the exception of Dodger Stadium, which will operate between 8am and 6pm.

First dose Appointment Online

The City's Carbon Health appointment portal will be updated with the additional groups by Monday. First dose appointments are available online at Coronavirus.LACity.org/VaxAppointment.

Another delivery of 7,000 doses from Pfizer will be administered through the City's Mobile Outreach for Vaccine Equity (MOVE) program. The City will deploy eight mobile teams this week to residents in neighborhoods including Pico-Union, Van Nuys, Sunland/Tujunga, Vermont Square, Koreatown, Boyle Heights, and Chinatown. The MOVE initiative works with community organizations and leaders to bring vaccines to areas with the highest need; to date, this effort has administered nearly 24,000 doses to vulnerable Angelenos across Los Angeles, with more than 90% given to people of color.

2nd dose appts

City sites will offer second dose appointments this week for Angelenos who received their first dose between February 16 and February 22. Second dose patients should have received notifications with their appointment details last week. Patients should note that the date stamped on the CDC vaccination cards received after their first dose is not an appointment confirmation. Instead, everyone should use the appointment details provided by Carbon Health via email and/or text.
