Auburn, Calif.- The Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) will be installing new water mains and connecting new services lines as part of its Rocklin Front Yard Main Relocation project.
Scheduled to begin in August, the project will replace approximately two miles of pipeline and over 260 individual service lines. The project is part of the agency's capital improvement program, which was presented to the PCWA Board of Directors at their August 6 meeting in Auburn.
"We've identified and repaired numerous leaks causing property damage and water waste in the Casa Grande area between Sunset Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue in recent years," PCWA Director of Field Services, Tom Reeves reported.
The existing water mains were installed in front yards when the Rocklin subdivision was built. Because the repairs often involve removal of portions of resident's concrete driveways and ornamental landscaping, the agency has determined there is a need to install new water mains and service lines to provide reliable service to the area.
"We'll be replacing 1960's infrastructure that has surpassed its useful service life, including pipelines and degrading service materials," Engineering Services Manager, Jeremy Shepard said. Once installed, all trenches will be paved and roads will be re-surfaced for a uniform appearance.
Residents will be notified at least two weeks prior construction on their streets, and a full-time, onsite PCWA inspector will be available. More information can be found on the agency's website.
Other upcoming capital improvement projects include updates to the PCWA Business Center, and the Long Ravine pipeline project that will replace approximately one mile of existing, 100-year- old pipeline critical to Placer County water supply.
In other news, PCWA Directors:
- Were presented with a District Transparency Certificate of Excellence from the Special District Leadership Foundation. The certificate was awarded as a result of transparency in
the operations and governance of the Agency. - Heard a drought update from Linda Yager, PCWA Deputy Director of Customer Services.PCWA customers conserved 35% in July compared to the base year of 2013, exceeding
the state mandated conservation rate of 32%. Statewide conservation was at 27% in July. - Received a fire season update from PCWA Risk and Safety Manager, Peter Cheney. The agency is closely monitoring all fire activity in the area and potential impacts on the watershed and PCWA facilities. Cheney assured the Board and public that PCWA lands and facilities have been well maintained in an effort to mitigate potential wild fire damage.
The next regular meeting of the PCWA Board of Directors will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015, at the PCWA Business Center, 144 Ferguson Road, in Auburn. PCWA board meetings are open to the public.
