Folsom Appoints Sari Dierking as New City Attorney

After serving as interim since February, Dierking officially assumes the role following City Council approval

Folsom, Calif.- Folsom City Manager Bryan Whitemyer recently announced the appointment of Sari Dierking as Folsom City Attorney, following a competitive recruitment process and the Folsom City Council’s approval of her employment agreement at its July 14 meeting.

Dierking has served as Interim City Attorney since February, advising the City Council, the City Manager, and all city departments following the retirement of the city’s previous City Attorney. Before assuming the interim role, she spent 10 years as Folsom Assistant City Attorney, providing legal counsel on a broad range of municipal issues, including housing and land use, public safety, homelessness, governance, and regulatory compliance.

“Sari has been a trusted legal advisor to this organization for a decade, and over the past five months she has demonstrated exceptional leadership as Interim City Attorney,” said City Manager Whitemyer. “Her deep knowledge of municipal law, collaborative approach, and commitment to public service have earned the confidence of the City Council, our leadership team, and city staff. She is exceptionally well-qualified to lead the City Attorney’s Office and provide the sound legal counsel needed to protect the city’s interests and support effective and efficient local government.”

Experience

Dierking brings 23 years of legal experience to the role, including more than 20 years representing California public agencies. Before joining the city in 2016, she served as a Senior Deputy City Attorney for the City of Sacramento, where she advised city departments, represented the city in complex litigation, and handled a broad range of municipal legal matters. She also spent six years as a deputy attorney with the California Department of Transportation, representing the state in public entity litigation throughout California.

“It has been a privilege to serve the City of Folsom for the past 10 years, and I’m honored to continue that service as City Attorney,” said Dierking. “I look forward to providing legal advice that protects the city’s interests, supports good governance, and helps the City Council and staff serve our community with integrity.”

Dierking earned her law degree from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science, cum laude, from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She is a member of the State Bar of California and serves on the Sacramento County Bar Association’s Public Law Section Board of Directors. She resides in Folsom with her husband and two children.
