Don’t bother joining the party if you’re coming in weak. That should be the message for all automakers that are producing crossover sport utility vehicles. It’s a class that is already stocked full of admirable vehicles that have won mass approval from the car-buying public.
Ford seemingly got the message, which is why the Edge came back with so many revisions this year. The 2011 Ford Edge received a host of changes that have put this popular crossover in the must-view category.
Thanks to those changes, the Edge is now among the top choices for a midsize crossover SUV. It can go head-to head with elite models like the Toyota Highlander, Honda CR-V, Nissan Murano, Chevrolet Traverse, Mazda CX-9 and a few others.
The redesign provided a lot of updates, including improved interior and exterior styling, less road noise, more performance, and several new features.
The Edge’s exterior retains its athletic appearance, but now features attractive daytime running lights, more prominent chrome grille, plus new fenders and tail lamps.
Nothing has changed in regards to how the Edge rides. And that’s a good thing, since it’s been known for an ability to absorb road irregularities and provide smooth transportation. Since debuting in 2006, the Edge has also been praised for its agile handling, good cornering, and solid brakes. This crossover also provides generous passenger and cargo room.
What’s also new is the performance, which has been increased in three of the four trims to a 3.5-liter, V6 that produces 285 horsepower. If more power is the desire, go with the Sport model with a 3.7-liter V6 engine that has 305 horsepower.
Pardon the pun, but this Ford might not have the edge over all its competitors, but its combination of power, handling and comfort are a very nice mixture that should be alluring to many car shoppers.
