Genesis G90 features many luxurious qualities

Roseville, Calif.- Established a little more than a decade ago, the Genesis brand has carved out a niche in the luxury division.

While the numbers aren’t staggering, Hyundai’s luxury division went over 1 million in global sales by late 2023 and it continues to find a foothold among powerhouse luxury companies like Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Jaguar, Volvo, Acura, Land Rover, Lincoln, and even a relative newcomer like Tesla.

The Korean-based company hopes for an increase this year in sales of the 2026 Genesis G90, a full-size luxury sedan that has many enviable qualities – smooth ride, impressive comfort and high performance, all virtues that are appealing to car shoppers. A year ago, G90 sales were 1,617 and its highest sales year (2019) was 2,239.

Another thing the G90 has going for itself is cost – competitors have a tough time matching its price. The physically appealing sedan starts at approximately $92,800 and jumps to around $105,800 for the Prestige Black trim model that was introduced this year.

The Prestige Black casts an impressive silhouette. It has been described as a stealth sedan that features matte-black 21-inch wheels, tinted lighting elements, and darkened chrome trim, that combine to give it an imposing presence. The black bumper in the rear has a darkened light strip that connects the taillights.

The interior is a plush cabin that offers an array of cool standard features like Nappa leather upholstery, a 22-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 16-way power-adjustable passenger seat, steering wheel memory settings, and heated and ventilated front seats. The back seats are also heated and have power rear-window sunshades.

The G9 has a large 12.3-inch touchscreen interface with easy-to-read graphics. What we also enjoyed is the touchscreen is intuitive and the interior also uses some physical buttons. However, we are not a fan of the power soft-close doors, which makes one feel the door needs a hard shove to close it. And the cargo area is small – 12 cubic feet – for a large sedan.

AT A GLANCE – 2026 GENESIS G90

  • Performance: twin turbocharged 3.5-liter, V6, 375 horsepower; twin turbocharged 3.5-liter, V6, 409 horsepower
  • Mileage estimate: 17-26 mpg; 18-26 mpg
  • Price estimate: $92,800 to $105,800
  • Warranty: 5 years/60,000 miles; drivetrain: 10 years/100,000 miles; roadside assistance: 5 years/unlimited; corrosion: 7 years/unlimited

The Genesis G-90 comes with a choice of two engines. The standard one is a twin-turbo 3.5-liter, V6 that produces 375 horsepower and 391 horsepower. It travels 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and fuel economy is 18-26 mpg.

The optional engine is more powerful, but not significantly. It’s a twin-turbo 3.5-liter, V6 that combines with a 48-volt electric supercharger to deliver 409 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. It goes 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds and the gas mileage is almost identical (17-26 mpg).

Regardless if it’s cruising around town or accelerating on the freeway, the muscular G90 delivers a plush ride with lots of comfort. Although we wouldn’t call it athletic, it handles well on all surfaces and also has a quiet interior.

Driver safety features include forward collision and highway driving assist; blind spot and parking collision avoidance; safe exit assist; driver attention warning; remote smart parking; rear cross-traffic collision avoidance; and 360-degree surround view monitor.

Although the 2026 Genesis G90 still lacks the notoriety of many established full-size luxury sedans, it possesses enough strong characteristics that make it a vehicle worth considering.
