7 Reasons to Camp in Nevada City

Autumn in Sierra Foothills at Inn Town Campground

NEVADA CITY, Calif. – While Labor Day typically signals the end of the summer and camping season, Nevada City's Inn Town Campground, located in the Sierra foothills is giving campers seven reasons to make it basecamp for a host of autumn outdoor adventures this year.

"Fall is one of Nevada City locals' favorite times of year, and a great time to go camping. Not only do you get to enjoy the changing color of leaves, the weather is warm during the day and crisp at night, making it ideal for camping," said Erin Thiem, Inn Town Campground co-owner. "The summer crowds have subsided, so you're more likely to find your perfect swimming hole along the Yuba River, and there's still plenty of events and things to do in town."

Here are seven more reasons to plan a camping trip at the Inn Town Campground in Nevada City this fall:

1- Stay & Play During the Nevada City Film Festival

Before summer's over, plan to visit during the annual Nevada City Film Festival and enjoy the work of emerging and top independent filmmakers. From August 23-30, award-winning short and feature length films from around the world will be screened in the historic Gold Rush era town of Nevada City. Stay at the Inn Town Campground during the Film Festival and enjoy two nights of camping and two festival passes for just $160 ($300 value).

2- Explore the Inn Town Campground's Haunted Pathway

Throughout the month of October, campground guests are invited to wander the second annual Halloween Haunted Pathway. This kid-friendly Halloween experience through the oak and pine trees at the campground is a self-guided walk that provides entertainment for all ages and was designed to get families into the spirit of Halloween. Open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. October 1-31

3- Folk Trails Hike through Historic Cemeteries

In honor of "Day of the Dead," the Folk Trails Hiking Club will lead a walk through Nevada City's historic cemeteries. Each cemetery offers a glimpse into Nevada City's past and will offer an opportunity to learn about some of the individuals buried there. This walk is co-led by Nevada County Cemetary District's Matt Melugin, is free and open to all. The route is approximately four miles, mostly easy with a few hills, and will take place November 1 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

4- YBONC Women's Mountain Bike Clinic

Make it a "girls weekend" and participate in the 2019 Nevada County Women's Mountain Bike Skills Clinic and Camp November 2-3. Geared toward women of all mountain bike experience levels, the skills clinic is available on a first come, first served basis and capped at 50 women. When off the bike, participants can expect gourmet meals and Nevada County hospitality, including a lodging option at the Inn Town Campground. Visit YBONC.org/events for more info and to register.

5- Nevada City Victorian Christmas

A popular tradition in Nevada City, Victorian Christmas welcomes the holiday season with authentic Christmas treasures, carriage rides, live entertainment, savory yuletide treats, Father Christmas and more. Fun for the whole family, Victorian Christmas takes place Sunday, December 8, 15 and 22 from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, December 11 and 18 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

6- Reserve the Campground's New Glamping Tent

The most recent addition to the Inn Town Campground, the "Sweetwater" glamping tent is the campground's largest furnished family glamping tent, with the ability to sleep five campers. This dog-friendly tent offers a rustic feel inside, with reclaimed wood beams, two queen beds and a couch.

7- Retro RVs

Similar to a glamping tent, campers are invited to simply arrive, check-in and start relaxing! Retro RV camping at the Inn Town Campground is perfect for those who want the conveniences of an RV, but don't want to tow or hook up their own. Book one of the campground's two Retro RVs and enjoy a queen bed, twin bunks (for kids only), dinette, kitchenette, bathroom with shower, A/C and heat.

Inn Town Campground

Located just under two miles from downtown Nevada City, the Inn Town Campground offers a variety of camping styles from traditional tent sites, to RV sites and fully furnished "glamping" tents complete with real beds, linens, electric blankets, bedside tables, electricity, outdoor seating and peaceful views. Glamping tents are offered March through November, while sites with hookups are available year-round for those with their own RV or camper. Regular activities including outdoor family movie nights, lawn games and kids' crafting activities animate the experience for family members of all ages.
