Lifetime of service recognized
Rocklin, Calif.- Allan Stone of the Rocklin Kiwanis Club was presented his service club's Legion of Honor Award for 40 years of service at the club's lunch meeting last week. The Legion of Honor Award is presented to people who have been a Kiwanis member for at least 25 years.Â
For Stone the recognition is more than just being a Kiwanis member all those years. He has been an outstanding Kiwanian, always doing more than his share of service projects and serving his different clubs.
Stone has been a club president at the three Kiwanis clubs he joined, first in Inglewood, later in Glendale, and finally in Rocklin. He also served as secretary for two of those clubs. At Glendale, Stone went on to become a lieutenant governor for Div. 3. Â
He retired as Glendale's fire chief and moved to Rocklin with wife Marie in 1998. After joining Rocklin Kiwanis, he resumed his volunteer work. Wife Marie, an honorary Kiwanis member, supports him in all his endeavors. Stone has perfect attendance for all his 40 years in Kiwanis. Stone has served in Rocklin on the board, edited the club's weekly bulletin, and volunteered for any service project in which the club was involved.
He has been named the club's Member of the Year for an unprecedented five times. In addition to his Kiwanis activity, he remains active in the Rocklin Historical Society. He has been playing tennis since 1976 and still manages to play doubles at Sierra View County Club a couple of times a week, when his aching back allows it.
