Placer County community organizations receive grants from Athens Renewable Energy

Community Giving Program

Auburn, Calif. – Athens Renewable Energy is proud to recognize Placer Community Foundation, Roseville Urban Forest Foundation, and Gold Country Wildlife Rescue as the grant recipients for the first quarter of their Community Giving Program.

Placer Community Foundation has received $3000 for training and administrative expenses so they can continue providing ongoing support and guidance to local nonprofits.

“This grant will help us support nonprofits who work to promote whole-person health for Placer County residents,” said Sue Thompson, Board Chair at Placer Community Foundation. “We are grateful for Athens Renewable Energy’s contribution as we work to build a stronger and more resilient community.”

Roseville Urban Forest Foundation was awarded $1500 to purchase equipment for the collection of tree data. The purchased equipment will help RUFF provide accurate and quick on-site tree consultations for Roseville homeowners.

“Trees don’t just beautify our communities, they also reduce pollution and improve our quality of life,” said Patrick Morrison, President of the Roseville Urban Forest Foundation. “The funds provided will help us save time and provide better advice to residents- ultimately creating a more sustainable Placer County for future generations.”

Gold Country Wildlife Rescue received $3000 to purchase items essential to the health and well-being of the animals in their care. The grant will fund food, medical supplies, rehabilitation supplies, and staff who support the recovery and release of sick, injured, and orphaned animals.

“We extend our gratitude to Athens Renewable Energy for their support in providing essential resources for the care of sick and injured animals,” said Sallysue Stein, Executive Director and Board President at Gold Country Wildlife Rescue. “Every life is important, and this grant will help ensure that orphaned wild animals grow into healthy juveniles ready for release.”

Next round of applications

These grants have been awarded to non-profit organizations or groups whose work benefits the people or institutions of Placer County. Athens Renewable Energy would like to invite applications for its second-quarter 2025 Community Giving Program, a quarterly award given to non-profit and community organizations based in Placer County or serving its people.

“We are honored to support the development of a stronger, sustainable, and more resilient Placer County,” said Alex Neely, Communications Manager at Athens Renewable Energy. “Being a good neighbor is important to us, which is why we prioritize supporting programs that are essential to the local community and environment. We’re always happy to provide assistance in any way possible.”

Athens Renewable Energy is a proposed project combining 250-megawatts of solar with a 250-megawatt-hour lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS). The Athens Renewable Energy Community Giving Program is open to organizations working to positively impact the Placer County area. The next round of applications can be submitted by visiting our website here. The deadline is May 15, 2025.
