Placer Valley Sports Complex: Who's Designing It?

State-of-the-art Regional Sports Complex

Roseville, Calif. – Placer Valley Sports Complex, Inc. has reached its first major milestone in the building and development of its brand new, state-of-the-art Regional Sports Complex in Roseville.

Today the organization announced the hiring of LPA Inc. to design the complex and Griffin Structures and Coastal Partners, LLC to serve as co-project and construction managers.

"With LPA, Griffin Structures and Coastal Partners, we are partnering with three companies with excellent track records in design and construction," said Placer Valley Tourism CEO David Attaway. "We strongly believe this trio will build a sports complex that our entire region will truly be proud to call its own."

"The Regional Sports Complex will become a world class multi-sports complex, with up to 12 multi-sport fields, youth play areas, picnic areas, concession and clubhouse building, an extensive open space and regional trail network…"

The complex, set to open in late 2017, will feature 10 to 12 artificial multi-use sports fields for a variety of amateur sports, including lacrosse, soccer, football, rugby, Ultimate Frisbee and other long field-specific sports teams. The complex will cater primarily to youth sports leagues.

"The Regional Sports Complex will become a world class multi-sports complex, with up to 12 multi-sport fields, youth play areas, picnic areas, concession and clubhouse building, an extensive open space and regional trail network, and adjacent commercial opportunities," said Kevin Sullivan, ASLA, LEED AP BD+C and Principal at LPA. "We are honored to be a part of a project that will not only be a sports and recreation destination, but a place that will bring the community together for a variety of events year round."

Joint Funding

Joint funding from the City of Roseville and Placer Valley Sports Complex, Inc. will allow for local teams and programs to use the fields during the week and non-tournament weekends, while specific weekend dates would be held for tournaments.

Griffin Structures, Inc., a program and construction manager with offices in Northern and Southern California, is partnering with Coastal Partners, Inc. to manage the design construction of the sports park complex to be built along the western edge of the Roseville city limits.

"This is a great example of an innovative public-private partnership and collaboration between the Placer Valley Sports Complex organization and the City of Roseville," said Roger Torrerio, President of Griffin Structures. "We are thrilled to be a part of such an exciting project that will result in a world-class, 55-acre sports complex serving athletes from not just in Placer County, but from all over the country."

Coastal Partners, headquartered in Roseville, has had great success in Placer County spending the last 20 years focusing on office, industrial and hospitality development.

"Coastal Partners and Griffin Structures coming together on a joint effort will ensure the project is built to the highest of quality and sustainability standards," said Coastal Partners CEO Brett Baumgarten. "Our team has a great understanding in how to navigate local development procedures, while Griffin Structures has extensive experience in public-private partnerships and in building parks and sports complexes."

Hotels Stays

With estimated annual hotel stays of 25,000 and a direct economic impact between $8 million and $12 million for lodging, transportation, retail, restaurants and entertainment for Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln, the Regional Sports Complex will generate a significant boost in sales and job opportunities for Placer County.

"We believe the community should be involved from the start of the project, because these are the very people who will use the fields for various athletic competitions," Arash Izadi, ASLA, LEED AP BD+C and Associate at LPA. "With a mix of expert and community design input, the Regional Sports Complex will set the standard for design and environmental responsibility for these types of projects."

The artificial turf fields and drought-tolerant landscaping at the sports complex will meet California water directives to reduce use by 35 percent, as less water will be needed to operate the facility compared to similar sports centers.

To increase the safety of participants and spectators, a minimum of 850 parking spaces will be located on the south end of the complex to reduce the number of cars driving in high pedestrian traffic areas.
