Jessup University Announces Major Leadership Transition

Dr. John Jackson transitions to Chancellor as the University prepares for a nationwide presidential search in 2026.

Rocklin, Calif. – Jessup University today announced that Dr. John Jackson will be named to the role of Chancellor as he prepares to transition into retirement. The Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Parnell M. Lovelace, Jr. as Interim President while a nationwide search for a President will be launched in early 2026.

Dr. Jackson has faithfully led and served Jessup University for the past 15 years. Under his leadership, the University has significantly grown, adding many academic and graduate programs, and increasing the University’s influence as a top Christ-centered higher educational institution on the West Coast.

In his role as Chancellor, Dr. Jackson will continue to support donor engagement and lead a number of key initiatives over the next several months.

“It has been my privilege to serve Jesus and Jessup for the past 15 years. While I prepare for a retirement transition in 2026, I am honored to continue my work as the University Chancellor. My wife, Pam, and I are looking forward to serving with Dr. Lovelace as the Interim President so that we can prepare Jessup for this next season of ministry and leadership in our region and beyond,” said Dr. Jackson.

Dr. Lovelace earned a PhD in Intercultural Studies and a Doctorate of Ministry from Biola University. He has served as the Vice President of Community at Jessup since 2024. Dr. Lovelace is the founding and senior pastor of the Center of Praise Ministries in Sacramento. His background includes higher education and community service.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to follow the esteemed leadership of my predecessor, Dr. John Jackson. He has led our University with integrity and sacrifice. As I accept the role of Interim President, I look forward to serving strategically with our stellar faculty and staff, providing academic excellence to our students. The educational programs of Jessup University will continue to positively impact our region, nation, and world,” said Dr. Lovelace.

“We are deeply grateful for Dr. Jackson’s years of faithful leadership and celebrate his enduring contributions to Jessup,” said Board Chair Bonnie Gore. “We are confident in the Lord’s continued guidance as Jessup University enters its next season of mission-driven higher education. As Interim President, Dr. Lovelace is well suited to lead the University during this period of transition, and he will contribute greatly to the long-term sustainability of the University as a premier Christ-centered institution.”
