Roseville Earns Silver Bicycle Friendly Community Designation

City recognized for investments in bike infrastructure, education, and safety

Roseville, Calif. – The City of Roseville has been elevated to a Silver Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) by the League of American Bicyclists. Roseville was the first city in Placer County to be honored at Bronze level in 2008, recertified in 2017 and again in 2021.

“Earning Silver is a testament to the City’s efforts in providing a more connected bicycling network,” said Suzanne Engelke, Associate Transportation Planner for the City of Roseville. “This recognition boosts Roseville’s goal to make active transportation an easy and confident choice for all ages, whether it’s for recreation or commuting.”

110 Miles + 51 Miles

The Silver BFC award recognizes Roseville’s commitment to improving conditions for all people who bike through investments in bike education programs like Safe Routes to School, bike events like BikeFest that promote and encourage people to choose biking, pro-bike policies, and bike infrastructure. The City celebrates this award and continues to focus on building a better community together. Roseville boasts over 110 miles of on-street bike lanes and more than 51 miles, and growing, of off-street paved trails.

As part of its commitment to be a healthy and connected city, Roseville reapplied for the League of American Bicyclists’ prestigious Bicycle Friendly Community award.

It has long been a goal to have a best-in-class transportation system for residents and visitors, and that includes building a community more accessible by bike. The City is honored to be part of the 444 communities across the United States that are recognized for their commitment to bicycle accessibility.

“Valuable part of everyday life”

“Building better places to bike is a shared effort,” said Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists. “The communities recognized here are part of a growing national movement, taking practical steps to support bicycling as a safe, accessible, and valuable part of everyday life.”

The five levels of the BFC award-diamond, platinum, gold, silver and bronze, plus an honorable mention category-provide a clear incentive for communities to continuously improve. Awarded communities must renew their status every four years to ensure that they not only maintain existing efforts, but also keep up with changing technology, national safety standards, and community-driven best practices.
