Mill District in Healdsburg brings elevated living to Wine Country

Architectural Digest Top 100 firm brings raw luxury and restrained aesthetic to Healdsburg

Healdsburg, Calif. – Mill District, a 9.6-acre neighborhood formerly existing for decades as the Nu Forest Products lumber mill, has partnered with the Architectural Digest AD100 firm Olson Kundig to design flats, garden homes and the first-of-its-kind penthouse residences in wine country.

Olson Kundig will draw on the mill’s history of timber and steel in its design and architecture, with strong, clean, polished spaces. The light-filled residences will fuse nature, art, and industrial heritage. By integrating a progressive wood-and-steel aesthetic to homes, the restrained design includes sleek and eminently sophisticated buildings that will authentically honor the spirit of Healdsburg.

Elevated Living

Mill District in Healdsburg, CA

Durable exterior materials – textured woods, graceful alloys, earth-toned concrete – will highlight the strong connections to the landscape that surrounds Mill District, drawing from the rich and diverse flora found within the local wilderness. To further immerse residents in nature, floor plans will connect each unit to the surrounding park, merging the built environment with nature through integrated design.

Interiors will be minimal and uncomplicated, offering modern elegance through pared-down, intentional design. Inventive mechanisms such as hand-cranked window walls will transform indoor spaces into outdoor rooms that hover above courtyards and gardens. Homes will include metal accents intended to age gracefully and acquire a weathered patina.

“Essence of contemporary luxury”

“Olson Kundig’s work will embody the essence of contemporary luxury, creating spaces that incorporate elevated design with comfort and simplicity,” explains David Hill, Managing Director of Replay Destinations, the developer of Mill District.

“Panoramic treetop living”

Canopy, the initial 43 residences of Mill District, features five penthouses that offer panoramic treetop living and views of historic downtown Healdsburg, sitting within a preserved grove of majestic heritage redwood trees. Designed for living and entertaining, both the indoor and outdoor chef-grade kitchens fuse contemporary luxury with a warm, inviting ambiance. Premium finishes and natural materials are prevalent throughout the home. Spa-inspired bathrooms with free-standing sculptural tubs, frameless and curbless glass showers and limestone walls. Large windows provide natural light and views while maintaining privacy.

By combining raw materials with modern design, Olson Kundig will form the centerpiece of Mill District.
