Rocklin, Calif. – William Jessup University, the Sacramento area’s only residential four-year private university, today announced a $10.5 million campus expansion to build a new dormitory to house 210 students.
The new, three-story 40,000-square-foot building will be constructed near the new University Avenue entrance to the Rocklin campus. The appealing design of the new dorms, coupled with the new University Avenue, will dramatically change the face of the growing university.
Groundbreaking for the new dorm is expected in February and construction slated to be completed by early 2016. Reeve Knight Construction and The Taylor Group Architects will oversee the project.
Made possible through generous donations from William Jessup University supporters, the dormitory will feature a substantial common area for study on each floor and a large overhanging deck that overlooks the entrance to campus.
There will also be a fire pit off the deck region that includes a barbecue area and benches that wrap around the triangular space. This area will be called the “Alumni Courtyard.”
“This latest expansion is a very exciting addition that will allow over 200 students the opportunity to live and learn on campus,” said Dr. John Jackson, President of William Jessup University. “Providing additional on-campus housing is a top priority of the university as we grow our enrollment and enhance our campus community.”
The dorm will feature attractive landscaping around the building and have a double-door entry, elevator, laundry facilities, additional storage lockers, wireless internet and basic television service.
This is the third major expansion project for the university, which transformed the former Herman Miller furniture factory into a vibrant campus in 2004.

Founded in 1939 by William Jessup, the university moved to Rocklin, California, in August 2004. WJU is the first and only WASC accredited private four-year Christian university to have its main campus located in the greater Sacramento area, offering degrees in many different disciplines, including Bible and Theology, Biology, Business Administration, Christian Leadership, Creative Arts, English, Family & Children’s Ministry, History, Intercultural Studies, Kinesiology, Liberal Studies & Credentialing, Math, Music, Organizational Leadership, Pastoral Ministry, Psychology, Public Policy and Youth Ministry.
