Tahoe 200 Running Festival for Novices to Ultra Runners

Homewood Mountain Resort Sept 13- 15

HOMEWOOD, Calif. – This September, Homewood Mountain Resort will serve as host to the inaugural Tahoe 200 Running Festival, an event weekend designed to include races, live music, a vendor village and other related activities for runners and their families, whether they are novice or experienced ultra-runners. Building on the success of the Tahoe 200, the first 200-mile single loop mountain event in the United States, the Tahoe 200 Running Festival presented by North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, Destination Trails and Altra, will include a 5k Family Run, 10k and 15k Lake Run, Beer Belly 2k, Vertical "Face-Off" 4k, concerts, a pop-up vendor village, and more.

"The Tahoe 200 circumnavigates the clear blue waters of Lake Tahoe from the Tahoe Rim Trail, and has been an aspirational event for ultra-runners over the years. Homewood has proudly hosted this event since the beginning, and we're excited to expand it into a weekend-long event for everyone – with smaller race events that will offer the ability for runners of all experience and endurance levels to participate in," said Kevin Mitchell, Homewood Mountain Resort general manager.

Registration for the weekend's events and activities is now open and will include:

Vertical "Face Off" 4k
A short, steep quad-burner, participants will compete for a podium spot by racing straight up "The Face" to the top of the Madden Chair and gaining 1,030' vertical before heading back down. There is a three hour cut-off time for this race.

15k Lake Run
Starting at Homewood's base area under the arch, this race travels 7.5km north on the paved bike path roughly to Sequoia Avenue before turning around to head back to Homewood.

10k Lake Run
Starting at Homewood's base area under the arch, this race travels 5.1km north on the paved bike path roughly to Timberland Lane before turning around to head back to Homewood.

5k Family Fun Run
Starting at Homewood's base area under the arch, this race travels 2.5km north on the paved bike path roughly to Tallac Avenue (just before Eagle Rock) before turning around to head back to Homewood.

Beer Belly 2k
Just for fun, the 2k "Beer Belly" race will be held in true Homewood fashion. Open to all ages (root beer or water served to those under age 21) this race takes place between Homewood's North and South base areas with participants enjoying beer samples along the way. A belly full of beer is included with registration.

Tahoe 25k
Hosted by Destination Trails, the Tahoe 25k is a fun and challenging race that spans between the base of Homewood all the way to Ellis Peak and Barker pass while gaining 3,879'. Enjoy unbeatable views on this route of the Crystal Basin, Loon Lake, Desolation Wilderness, and of course, Big Blue. There are four aid stations across this course.

Tahoe 200 – Watch Party
Although the Tahoe 200 is sold out, spectators can still enjoy this event by cheering on their favorite ultra runners from around the globe. Racers will begin their 205.5-mile journey at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13 at the Homewood base area near the North Lodge. The first several miles feature a route through Homewood's ski area, including the Snowcat Adventure terrain, as they climb up to Ellis Peak. From there they head south as they run counterclockwise around the lake. During the event, the resort will host a live feed of the racers in the vendor village. Racers are expected to complete their loop back into Homewood between the following Sunday and Monday.

Vendor Village & Live Music
From 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 13 – September 15, the Homewood Mountain Resort base area will be converted into a base camp for vendors, running outfitters, and local apparel brands. This area will also double as the starting location for all race events taking place over the weekend, including the start and finish of the Tahoe 200. Guests are also permitted (and encouraged) to explore the trail system the resort has to offer and try new gear offered in the village and enjoy the free live music each day.

Food and drinks will also be available for purchase throughout the weekend from Tahoe Fusion and Mountain BBQ, including a full service bar.
