SACRAMENTO The United Auburn Indian Community announced today its donation of $50,000 to Partners in Health to assist victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.
Partners in Health has been on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years and the $50,000 will immediately go toward the purchase of medical and surgical supplies to help those affected by the earthquake.
'Seeing and hearing stories about what is happening in Haiti right now has made everyone reflect and be thankful for what we have,' said Jessica Tavares, Chairwoman of the United Auburn Indian Community. 'We are fortunate to be in a position to make this donation and hope that everyone thinks about what sacrifices they can make to help the people of Haiti.'
UAIC selected Partners in Health because they have operational facilities in Haiti and credibility with the local community. The missing link has been money for immediate supplies and continued support for the people of Haiti.
The money will be wired directly to Partners in Health in order to make an impact as soon as possible. Partners in Health and its partner organization in Haiti, Zanmi Lasante operate a dozen clinics in Haiti just outside the disaster zone of the recent earthquake.
