Superior Concert Experience Closer than You Think
Wheatland, CA- Not since an Aerosmith / Kid Rock show back in November of 2002 had we been to the Amphitheater up the road in Wheatland. Looking back, we struggled to recall anything memorable about the experience or the venue.
With Dead and Company rolling into town this past Friday, it was time to truck it on up Highway 65 to Wheatland to end the 14-year drought amongst the Deadheads. We’re glad we did.
Despite the blistering heat, we packed in our water bottles, arrived early to avoid parking headaches, and quickly settled in on the lawn. Many fans cooled off by taking advantage of the nice water feature that greets you upon entering. (A wise amenity)
Having been to the iconic Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View for numerous shows over the years, we greatly appreciated the notable difference in the quality of views and sound. With the exception of the usual sound and camera towers, almost every vantage point in Wheatland is excellent. The enormous high definition stage screen stood out better than other venues we’ve attended and transports fans right upfront with the band.
The sound in terms of clarity and volume was nothing short of remarkable. Vocals were clear, guitar solos soared and the rhythmic waves of percussion resonated perfectly throughout the 18,000 capacity venue. Our visit the following night to Shoreline confirmed that the Wheatland Amphitheater sound quality and stage views are dramatically better.
($17 corporate beers were about the only thing in common we found between venues. Thankfully, the deadheads were selling $3 premium craft beers in the lot along with other treats and crafts.)
Regardless of your musical tastes, the Amphitheater in Wheatland delivers a memorable evening with a superior audio-visual experience for music fans. It also offers quick and easy access from South Placer County without the hassles of big city venues.
We can only hope to see an increase in the number of top acts to visit this superb large music venue in this tiny town.
