SACRAMENTO, Calif.- United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced that SHAWN JONATHON SHARP, 38, of Citrus Heights, Calif., was sentenced to 30 months in prison by United States District Court Judge Frank C. Damrell, Jr. This case was investigated by the Sacramento Violent Crimes Task Force, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Roseville Police Department, and the SacramentoCounty Sheriff's Department.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Rodriguez, who prosecuted this case, information from a concerned citizen led to SHARP being identified as the robber in three different bank robberies: (1) Wells Fargo Bank, 9407 Madison Avenue, Orangevale, Calif., on October 17, 2007 for $853; (2) River City Bank, 3992 Douglas Blvd. #140, Roseville, Calif., on October 24, 2007 for $1,989; and (3) Umpqua Bank, 1050 Pleasant Grove Boulevard, Roseville, Calif., on November 2, 2007 for $1,711. In each robbery, SHARP made verbal demands for money and placed bank employees in fear of harm upon any refusal to comply with his demands.
SHARP also threatened the tellers with a gun. On November 2, 2007, following a tip from a concerned citizen regarding the robber's getaway vehicle, the FBI and the Roseville Police Department determined that SHARP used his girlfriend's car as his getaway vehicle. SHARP was arrested several hours after his successful getaway from the Umpqua Bank robbery.
As part of his sentence, SHARP was ordered to pay restitution for all three of his bank robberies. After SHARP completes his 30 month prison term, he will be on supervised release for an additional 36 months.
