Stay Safe on Folsom Trails: Walk Left, Ride Right Guidelines
Located along the American River and near Folsom Lake, Folsom's trail network connects neighborhoods, parks, and open spaces while providing residents and visitors with some of the region's best opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Folsom. Calif.,- Folsom's award-winning trail system is one of the community's greatest assets, offering more than 60 miles of scenic pathways for walking, running, biking, and outdoor recreation. Whether residents are exercising, commuting by bike, or simply taking in the scenery, following these simple "Share the Trail" guidelines helps keep Folsom's trail system safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.
Walk Left. Ride Right.
Walkers and runners should stay to the left side of the trail, facing oncoming bicycle traffic. Walking against the flow allows pedestrians to see approaching cyclists and react safely.
Cyclists should stay to the right side of the trail, maintain a safe speed, and pass pedestrians on the left only when it is safe to do so. Cyclists should return to the right side of the trail after passing. Cyclists are responsible for yielding to oncoming trail users.
Keep Traffic Flowing
Trail users can help keep the trail flowing smoothly by walking, running, and riding single file, especially in busy areas. Anyone needing to stop to rest, check a phone, or adjust equipment should pull completely off the trail to avoid blocking other users.
Keep Dogs Safe
Dogs are welcome on Folsom's trails but must remain on a leash no longer than six feet. Keeping dogs on the left side of the trail with their owner helps reduce conflicts with bicyclists and other trail users.
Follow Signs and Watch for Crossings
Trail users should obey all trail signs and marked detours and remain especially alert where trails intersect with roadways. Extra caution should be used at all trail crossings where vehicle traffic may be present.
- The speed limit on City trails is 15 mph.
- Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 electric bicycles are permitted on City trails.
- Off-highway electric motorcycles are prohibited on City trails.
Every trail user plays an important role in creating a safe, courteous, and enjoyable experience.
